Malcolm and Sofia and the most determined teenage graffiti-writers in the Bronx. But when a rival gang buffs their latest masterpiece, they hatch a plan to get their revenge by planning the ultimate graffiti tag — to “bomb” the Mets’ home run apple. The only hitch is that they need to raise $500 to pull off their spectacular scheme. Over the course of two whirlwind, sun-soaked summer days, Malcolm and Sofia travel on an epic urban adventure involving black market spray cans, illicit bodegas, stolen sneakers, a high stakes heist, and a beautiful, stoned girl whose necklace is literally their key to fame. “A uniquely fresh, affectionate and downright huggable debut feature,” (Mark Olsen, LA Weekly) GIMME THE LOOT is the charming, funny, daring story of two taggers that will do anything to become the biggest writers in the city.
A Street artist named ABOVE has designed on the exterior walls of the African City Johannesburg’s Jewel City center, which host 300 diamond traders. The double messeged slogan stating “Diamonds Are a Woman’s Best Friend and a Man Worst Enemy are printed on the wall.
I was able to get away with this diamond wall heist because I told the owners I would paint in big letters “Diamonds are a woman’s best friend” on the exterior of their building. The owners loved the idea and all quickly agreed.
The next day I had started painting but what the owners didn’t know is that I lied to them and was hijacking their wall. Like any premeditated robbery, situations are not what they seem and shit can flip from best friends to worst enemies in a few moments.
I assume the owners were too busy trading diamonds inside the mega centre they never took the time to come out and see I was painting a controversial word play about the diamond trade and how it’s fueled so much bloodshed in wars making it one of man’s worst enemies.
The rumors were true as RETNA blessed the Houston Bowery Mural replacing FAILE piece that was cleared out the other day.Famed graffiti photographer Martha Copper took pictures as the Los Angeles based artist put in work during the weekend on this piece supposedly inspired by Raekwon’s Of Wu-Tang’s Lyrics at the center boundaries of both soho & noho.
