Basquiat's Ex-Girlfriend Reveal's Unseen Art Work

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s ex girlfriend Alexis Adler’s East Village home is filled with unseen Basquait art work. According to Art Info while living together in 1979 the then unknown artist painted on wall’s of the East Village home with glyph-like mural that reads “Olive Oyl,” painting crowns and “Famous Negro Athletes” on a door, and the word “Milk” on a radiator.  Alexis Adler now a current embryologist at New York University now own’s the apartment with the artwork intact. She just recently assembled a team of advisors to help sort through the material which includes a play that Basquiat wrote and some 50 rolls of 35mm film documenting the artist at work.

Street artist @ayshells Jay Shells @TheRapQuotes is dropping some bars on the streets of New York City with some Rap Quotes street art. Shells went all over New York City and posted over 30 signs with rap quotes that refer to rap lines of the specific location from artist such as Big L, Jeru tha Damaja, Mos Def, Nas, Kanye West, CL Smooth, GZA, and RA the Rugged Man.

Freedom Tunnel Revisited 2013

Curbed revisits  the Freedom Tunnel’s on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for Spring 2013 with its series of photo essays by Nathan Kensinger. Kensinger heads down to the Amtrak Tunnels located in Riverside Park with urban exploration author Moses Gates the tunnels which were named after artist Chris “Freedom” Pape who was also from the Upper West Side. The new photos unearth surprisingly a new mural pictured below dedicated to former Mayor Ed Koch who campaigned against graffiti.

Bowery Mural Getting A New Piece From Crash

The birthday celebration tribute mural for street photographer Martha Cooper will be short lived as the Bowery Mural exchanges cans yet again. Next up on the Bowery Mural is a new piece from Bronx graffiti artist CRASH  aka John Matos. The new piece seems to feature the classic cartoon Popeye The Sailor Man punching into Crash’s name, we will see as the piece is expected to be done by Friday.
